Questions about Oil Pan Gasket Replacement.
92 Civic LX with 189,000 miles.
I just finished replacing my oil pan gasket but before I did I googled the DIY & did everything step-by-step.
Got a few questions tho...
After I torqued the nuts & bolts on the oil pan back on, I noticed some of the nuts were still kinda loose(feeling with my hand). So I made them all tight again. Is that the way it's suppose to be?
What happen was...there's so many nuts for the oil pan that when I tighten them the 1st time that gave some "turning slacking" to make them feel loose again.
Is that normal?
Also..if I tighten them too much will I have to get another gasket? Or just loose the the nuts/bolts a bit?
I'm trying to get this right cause my Civic been leaking oil for months from the gasket.
P.S: Yes I know...9 lbs of torque for the gasket...But how tight is that? Finger tight? Give the wrench a tiny nudge tight?

On anything with lots of bolts you need to go around several times until they are all properly tight. But going to too high a torque will bend the pan and cause leaks. While replacing the gasket you should inspect the top edge of the pan around the bolt holes to be sure it's not bent.
A foot-pound is one pound of force applied to the end of a wrench that is a foot long. Or two pounds on a wrench that is 6 inches long.
