Question about Towing a Bike

Question about Towing a Bike
Howdy to y'all from a newbie here in Tampa. I have an '01 EX without a towing package. Has an auto tranny. I have 35K on the car and it runs like new and I want to keep it that way. I also ride a Kawasaki Vulcan 1600 Classic. I'm thinking about getting a small, light trailer to haul my scoot to some of the rallies that are just kinda far to ride to. I hate to ride somewhere and be tired before I even get there! Since I'm 62 and , unfortunately, not getting younger, this is a consideration.
I reckon my question is if my Civic can pull the trailer and bike (total weight probably about 900 lbs or maybe a little less) without causing any problems such as brakes or tranny. Any help and/or advice would be greatly appreciated!
TIA,
Barry

RE: Question about Towing a Bike
Towing anything voids your warentees. Says it right in them. You'd have to come up with some kind of a custom tow hitch too. Maybe one from a CRV would fit. 900 lbs is a lot for a little Civic too, I think that the passenger capacity is less than that.
Welcom to the forum by the way!

RE: Question about Towing a Bike
Hey dude, your car can handle that, easily. My 88 with substantially less power and braking power than your 01 used to tow a sail boat on the weekends when my brother-in-law owned it and I've seen no effects. Suspension, frame, etc. is all good. I'd imagine brake ware would increase a bit, but that's just pads anyways if you're on the ball with changing and checking them.
You're my hero.

RE: Question about Towing a Bike
Thanks for the replies! General opinion says "go for it!." I see receivers made for the Civic. Now to locate a trailer! AOL...you mentioned a Class 1 hitch. Can I assume that's a stronger hitch than a Class II or III? Amg....I'm way out of warrantee. I bought the car used and have an extended warrantee but it's very limited and wouldn't cover brakes anyways. It would be a great fight to get anything done to the transaxle, too.
I'm not worried about towing in mountains very much as I'm not planning on going out to the Rockies. Maybe the Smokies or Ozarks but I'll do most of the miles in them on the bike anyway. WooHooo! Twisties and hills on the bike are great fun!
