Problems with ECM perhaps
Hi all,
I've just started to get an engine malfunction light while I drive so I decided to check it in for a service for them to see what was up with that while they were at it. It turns out according to the Honda dealership that the problem is that the PCM is kaput (although reading the manual it says only auto cars have PCMs and mine's a manual? :S) and it's giving an error code of P1607 - Malfunction in PCM Internal Circuit. They then said it would cost AUD$2200 to get a new one for the car. I was reluctant to invest in one straight away since that sounds awfully expensive and decided to investigate a bit further first before biting the bullet. I basically need some advice on how to fix this problem cost-effectively and is there anyway I can confirm myself that this is indeed the problem? I'm a bit disappointed if indeed the computer for the car is broken since I've only had it for 4 years and it's already falling apart . Any constructive suggestions is greatly appreciated.
Regards,
Mark G

RE: Problems with ECM perhaps
It's a 2002 Honda Civic 1.7L - bought brand new.
According to xe.com, AUD$2200 = US$1780
It does seem a bit suspect that it's just "went out" and to add further to the problem when I asked why they claimed the "PCM" went out they just said it shouldn't and they didn't know why this one did .
