i have never seem more confusion than over this VTEC stuff.
And you are in Bulgaria (i think), so we may not be sure what was put in foreign cars.
in the post above yours, VTECivic95 said it best.
refer to that post for the answer to your question

RE: Please tell me the truth about this engine .
As i undestand from the sites it is possible the engine to be one of th first vtec-s from so called "1.6i-vt" models for the uk or japanese markets. The guy is telling me that it is imported from Japan.
The guy will take a look at the engine serial number and wiil call me - then we will understand which type is for sure.
I want to mention that the first civics with vtec from 1990 are with engines without the texet vtc on them and they are similar to the Si sreies.
P.S.
Is it true that the Si-R engines are in some cases B16A1 engines or B16A?
I guess that the engine is B16A or B16A1 - if it is for the japanese market it should be B16A i guess.

RE: Please tell me the truth about this engine .
Vtec=Variable Valve timing, even if its not Vtec swap it if it's such a big deal, important parts are if the car has good mileage, fires right up and has no clicking/knocking problems and you can affore it buy it. VTEC shouldnt be what stops you in this year car.

RE: Please tell me the truth about this engine .
Thank you for the collaboratin.
As I understand it will be a good deal if the engine is in good condition.I'll buy the car for 1350USD.
Thank you all.
I called the guy - the engine number is zc2234135.
It is 90% sure that the car is imported from Japan becouse it has a book with the diagnostics of the car and it is in japanese.
I am still not sure for the type of the engine becouse it is 1990 engine and as I understood from the WWW it is possible it to be one of the first vtec engines becouse they look just like the ZC engines without any "VTEC" texts on them.
The specs in the book are 146 HP . - Is it possible the ZC to be forced to these HPs with good electronics?
I'll see the engine in the first days of october but if anyone give me some info for the ZC types I'll be happy.
P.S.
Is it true that there are japanese(JDM) ZC engines with VTEC?

RE: Please tell me the truth about this engine .
hi: i got your message.
sorry, i can not help you about these engine types. And yes, i have read here that there are vtec's that do not have the "VTEC" label on them.
not much interest in the different engines - i am not a "horsepower" type of guy
i just run stock - but i dont think i would want a vtec (does not keep life simple when going to do engine work).
fred
may take a couple of days, perhaps someone will reply.

ORIGINAL: uk civhead
Its not a vtec, end of story.

we already told you that it's not a vtec engine. dohc or sohc zc motors didn't come vtec. only if you slap on a sohc vtec head on a sohc zc block then it will be vtec. and yes you can do that. a couple of my buddies have this setup. however, you cannot do that on a dohc zc's. thank you and have a nice day
