Question Please help motor question!!!

I recently bought a 97 Honda Civic EX that needs a new motor. I found out that it has the VTEC-E motor and while pricing motors, found the just VTEC to be cheaper. My question is can I put a VTEC motor in my Civic when its original motor is a VTEC-E? All input is welcome, thanks.

You have a D16Y8? Replace that engine with a D16Y8 and you'll be fine. Otherwise what engine is the new used one?

He has a D16y5 if its the Vtec-E engine. But you can replace it with a Y8 no problem. That's regular vtec. Just be sure you have the right computer.
