panel removal
So I'm wanting to install a new head unit in my 01 LX but I'm having trouble with the clips. I found a PDF that helps me locate them:

but I'm not exactly sure how to disengage them. I have a small hook shaped tool but I'm not sure what to do. If anyone who has removed the control/cigarette lighter panel on the same gen civic can describe them, or better yet, provide a picture, I would be very grateful.
Thanks...

This is the DIY to convert your climate control to blue leds but it mainly tells you how to take off your cluster! Good luck

RE: panel removal
So I finally got around to installing my radio and I thought I'd explain a bit...
First I removed the cigarette outlet panel thing. What I did was take a couple credit cards to slip behind the top corners which allowed me to get a grip and pull it out. (I suppose the proper thing to do is to use a tool to unclip the retainers, but this worked for me without damaging anything.)
Next I removed a couple screws underneath the radio. They were kind of hard to reach. Used an 8mm wrench to do the job - they stripped very quickly with a phillips screwdriver.
Then I used a credit card to slip behind one of the corners of the radio panel so I could grip it. There are 9(?) retaining clips holding this one on. I went around in a circle and gently pulled until each was lose, and it came right out after that.
Hope that helps others understand the process. I found lots of misleading info out there.
