Default Paint Cracks

Hey anybody ever see this happen on their civic.

It is only occurring on the hood. Looks like the paint is cracking and is most prevalent where the hood slopes by the headlights. Looks like someone cut the paint with an exacto knife. other than this the paint is in perfect shape and it is only on the hood slope.

Thanks,

are you using any harch chemicals? always use a car wash formula when you wash your car because sometimes dish soap and stuff will do that to your paint.

the paint is cracking underneath the clearcoat

edit: thought i'd give you the reason why you're getting cracks under the clear on the hood. its due to heat from the header. =[ i haz them too

well I never used any harsh chemicals (always used a car soap safe for clear coats) and I still have the factory headers.

yes the paint is cracking underneath the clear coat. guess I will have to get the hood repainted.
not really sure what would cause this and the paint is in tip top shape on the rest of the car and still shines and has the metallic sparkle.

ran it by a paint shop today and they said it is laquer checking. the paint was put on too thick at the factory. this kind of makes sense and this was the first year where they had these headlights and the hood slope. so maybe they put it on too thick right there. the car has never been wrecked - we bought it brand new ( with 13 miles ) so we have been the only owners and it has never been repainted so that isn't a possibility.

thanks for your ideas. guess I will get it taken care of before the paint starts peeling away. hey maybe I should wait till it does then I can save on the labor of having a body shop sanding it down all the way to the metal to get rid of the bad coat of paint - lol
