Default RE: overheating

ORIGINAL: 97blackhonda

i have a 97 honda civic dx d16y7 automatic my car keeps overheating i changed the fan motor, fan relay switch, the thermostat, even the sensor that is in the front of the motor by the distibuter and the fan sometimes comes on, i dont know what else to do[:@]

thanks i bought a new fan switch sensor and now my fan works thanks mk378
Are you telling me that the fan relay switch and the sensor you replaced in your first post is different than the fan switch sensor? how many switches and sensors does this one assembly have? Anyway, I wonder if all the stuff you purchased was unnecessary and the real culprit was the fan switch sensor.

regardless, glad it is now working.

Default RE: overheating

Yes there are 3 electrical devices on a Civic all measuring coolant temperature, for different reasons.

The sensor on the thermostat housing is an on-off switch ("coolant temperature SWITCH") that turns on the fan when the water returning from the radiator gets too hot.

thanks this helped me with my fluctuating temperature gauge on my 92 civic.....plus there was an air bubble in the radiator, once we got that out then everything else was good.

no, coolant was flowing through.....and when i took out the coolant temperature sensor it looked really black and it seemed like whoever worked on my cooling system before didn't let the cap off to release the air bubbles.
