Default Overheat/Antifreeze Smell

Sometimes I notice slight antifreeze smell while driving '91 civic. Seems to be loosing fluid. Yesterday I topped rad/res off with H2O before 100 mile trip. Wife noticed leaking on ground at one stop on trip. Crossing back across border into USA took about 60 minutes idling at the border. On way back home from border overheated on mountain climb. Pooped the rad cap and added H2O. Any ideas?? -Kevin

Pooped, Well that will provide some laughs. I opened the rad cap this morning, topped it off and started. Damm, bubbles coming out of the cap when reved up. Got a call in to mech for RR of HG. Oh BTW was asking to ideas on what might have caused overheat. It came back about 35 miles after overheat w/o overheating again. I'll see what mech says. Thanks Kevin

bubbles comming out of the coolant is almost always headgasket (i say almost just to cover my but =p). If i was you, i wouldnt drive it at all. These hondas warp heads and blocks really quick. could even happen with one overheat, so watch it

You'll have to remove the head, take it to a shop, and have it smoothed out. Then get the head gasket done.

My Mech says $650-$700 dollars. Is there a tut somewhere to see how hard this is and if I can do it? -K
