Default Oil pooling in the Intake Manifold

What would cause this? It accumulates when the car is not running, if I let it sit for a few days it will smoke a bit on startup and hesitate some untill it burns off.

What would cause this? It is definetly oil I got it on my fingers and rubbed it around, i'm postive.

This is an ongoing, plauge of a problem, help!

Replace your PCV valve (inexpensive part) and make sure the hoses leading to the PCV valve are clear. If it continues to do that it means your piston rings are wearing out, but you can still go quite a few more miles before needing a new engine.

PCV valve is new, the line isn't exactly clear though. The outlet to the PCV valve lies right where the oil is pooling up, so it is hard to tell if this is in fact the origin of the oil.

Also, I fail to see how piston rings wearing out will cause oil to accumulate when the car is not running. How does this happen?

I don't suppose valve stem seals is a possibility here? Could the oil not be dripping around the stem of an intake valve back down into the manifold?

It can't accumulate while it is not running. It's there all the time. It typically blows out of the hose from the valve cover and into the air duct before the throttle plate. If the leakage past the rings is not severe, flow thru the PCV valve will keep the crankcase at negative pressure so it doesn't come up there. Most of the smoke you see upon startup is likely coming directly from the engine because of worn rings and/or valve seals.

So if there is no oil at all abouve the throttle plate, it is rings but not severe? btw no oil on the plugs or in the cylinders, at least that can be seen from the spark plug opening.
