Default oil control orifice on d16y8?

Being new to Honda, Is there supposed to be an oil control orifice either on the top of the block or located anywhere on or within the cylinder head. This is a D16Y8 engine SOHC on a 1997 Civic LX Coupe. Many people that I have spoken with talk of an oil control orifice that can fall out when the head is removed. Does this specific engine use such a device?

Well, first of all we need to know for sure what engine you have. A 1997 Civic LX does not come with a D16Y8, it comes with a D16Y7. Has the engine been swaped? You either are providing the wrong engine code or your engine has been swapped.

You are right. The engine was swapped, however, when I gave the vin to my local Honda dealer, he told me that the correct engine for this vin is a d16y8. So, I guess that regardless of what is really correct regarding the application, does a d16y8 ( which is stamped on the block) take any type of an oil control orifice?

It's going to be in the head. The VTEC system requires full pressure from the oil pump delivered to the VTEC valve. Non-VTEC engines have an orifice in the block right wehre the head meets it.

This information may help due to my lack of Honda knowledge. This is an EX not an LX as I was originally told.( no rear badging). Does this change anything? I did take a close look at the head which has somewhat of a triangular cut-out which allows the oil flow to make it's way past the head bolt and up into the oil passage which lubricates the upper end.eason that I have such a concern about any type of oil control orifice is because this thing spun the back rod bearing, but all of the other tolerances are well within spec.
