Check that the CEL cycles on and off when you turn the key on but don't crank. Pull the brake handle up and watch the BRAKE light on the dash while trying to start. It should stay on.

If the BRAKE light doesn't stay on that means the ignition circuit is losing power when you turn the key all the way to III to crank. So that would make it crank but not start. Typically it is a bad ignition switch doing it.

Next to the keyhole on the column. It is the main switch controlled by the key to turn the car on.
