Default Need help troubleshooting, '98 Civic

Thanks in advance.

Background:

- 1998 Honda Civic, manual transmission, 155k mi

- New fuel filter installed 2 months ago

- For about 2 months the check engine light has been on, rough idle. I ran the code and it came back with a faulty O2 sensor, heater (bank 1). I have not yet replaced the O2 sensor

- 2 weeks ago the power door lock switch stopped working (it works immidiately after driving the vehicle, but not after the car has been sitting for a while).

Problem:
I drove the vehicle to work in the morning, drove it to lunch in the afternoon with no trouble. Went to drive it home and it wouldn't start. Gas tank says there is just under a 1/4 tank left. I did try and jump it but it still wouldn't start (battery is less than a year old).

I don't think its a bad injector or spark plug as they would all have to be bad for the vehicle not to turn over. So I'm thinking its either fuel pump or distributor? How can I verify the fuel pump is working?

Any other items you would check?

When the key is turned to START, does the starter crank the engine normally but it won't start or does it fail to crank?

Starter cranks, it doesn't sound like a dead battery where it just "clicks"

1) Click the CEL link in my signature to learn how to pull the CEL codes. Post what you find.

2) Turn the key to ON(II), and listen carefully for the low humming noise of the fuel pump priming for 2 seconds in the rear (gas tank). Do you hear it?

3) Click the spark link in my signature to learn how to check for spark. You should see bright white spark at all four plugs.

I'll check the CEL code, but the OBDII reader said it was
P0145 Third Heated Oxygen Sensor (Third HO2S) (Sensor 3) Circuit Slow Response

I'll check 2 and 3 as well.

Thank you.

Check again now (since car would not start) to see whether any new codes have popped up.

Fuel pump does "start" when the key is in the ignition. Its a light humming for 2-3 seconds followed by a "click".

I couldn't check spark as I didn't have a deep socket with me. I'll run the codes this weekend - OBDII tool is with a friend.

Good start. With the last two bits of information, you should be very close to pinpointing the problem.
