Was overheating involved in it stopping in the first place?

One bad cylinder makes these engines very hard to start. You could do a compression test. Also test fuel pressure with a gauge, and/or check for flow out the return line. Use a voltmeter and check that the injectors, distributor, sensors, etc. are actually receiving power as they should.

It would be rare for me or anyone else on the Internet to know exactly the problem with a car, being thousands of miles away from it. In this situation it often works to forget everything you've done so far, and go through the complete "cranks but won't start" rundown again. Assume that nothing is good or has already been checked. Or have someone else look at it.

I don't know if this will help or not, because I'm a bit of novice when it comes to working on cars and totally rely on the help from this forum and thank goodness for youtube. Anyhow, a few months ago I experienced similar problems with my 94 Civic EX. After every thing I read and even did some diagnostic test from a youtube video, it turned out to be my ignition switch harness. I was looking at the main relay and fuel pump, but after doing the test on the ignition switch I knew I had found the problem. Bought one off of E-bay for about 40 dollars and took a day off work to put it in. HTH.

Firing order is 1-3-4-2 going clockwise looking at the outside of the distributor.
