Need help with '93 Civic VX motor troubles please.
This is my wifes '93 Civic VX that has run perfectly for 145,000 miles, then it starts last week to lose power on acceleration only once it gets warmed up.
I replaced distributor cap, rotor, fuel filter, fuel pump, plugs and plug wires. Still have the problem, so I take it to my mechanic. He takes two days to diagnose and then tells me it is my EGR. Says that cylinders # 2, 3,and 4 are "plugged up," so the EGR dumps all the return emissions into cylinder #1 only, causing the failure of #1 and loss in power.
Does this sound for real to you guys? He wants $550 to fix it. Says he has to pull the intake manifold and manually clean the EGR passages. Three hours labor and a gasket, no other parts.
I guess I am not very trusting of mechanics in the area of California where I live and would like to know if others have had this same problem?
Any and all input is welcome.
Thanks for your time and input!
