RE: ne1 got a remote start on a 5 spd?
I know I guy at work who has a clifford alarm and remote start on a 5 speed. If anybody knows anything cliffords they will know you can turn your alarm on and off from nearly a mile away and the signal is so strong it goes through buildings etc. happens to me all the time if I knock the button while its in my pocket. Countless times ive walked past his car in the carpark and its engine is running, while he is 300ft away inside a building completely un-aware hes knocked the remote start button.
Just be very careful not to leave it in gear or car and wall could meet.

RE: ne1 got a remote start on a 5 spd?
use to pour boiling water on the intake years ago in missouri (that is where i am from).
to answer - no, i did not put one in my civic.
you put one in the ranger. but the ranger is rear wheel drive ??? (is that right). so, the engine is set in there - straight in (is that right ?).
cause i am wondering where those freeze plugs are on the civic. i just have never looked for them. Are they on the backside (toward the firewall ) ??
<edit>
i see where you said that the f-150 and ranger are oem. Never knew that the manufacturer put in freeze plug heaters.
And i also see on the pdf that the heater is put into the block drain plug. that explains the threads. that would be a much easier install than working with one of those freeze plugs.
You have a '98 Civic. Where is the block drain plug on it ??

Aww smack man!! You live in Alaska??? Thats where Compustar is FROM!!!!! Thats there main office and R&D department!!! Thats the reason that my shop uses them!!! They were designed for the cold!!! You can set up Temp. parameter, time parameters, cold start(as when the temp drops to a particular temp your car automatically starts!!!) Dude go to this link and search for a dealer near you!!! I've talked to tech support in Anchorage!!!! They can help your little civvy keep from a case of frost bite no problem man!!!!

Sweet, thanks! Maybe they'll sell me one for a diy install since I live on an island about 250 miles from Anchorage and taking the marine highway (ferry) over there with my car isn't really an option.

RE: ne1 got a remote start on a 5 spd?
thanxs for the response.
the link to parts america (that i provided above) answered that question.
click on that; then on the partamerica web page, click on "See all vehicles this product fits".
it's right there above the picture of the five star plug heater.
so, you bought the 05 heater; or are just looking at 2005 description of the procedure ??
Or was the one at napa for a 2005 ???

Gotcha. I haven't bought it yet. I just found the link to it and the instructions on the web(google rules!). The Napa one I originally linked came up for my 98 but I'm not sure it'll work on other years. Assume it will. Guess I'l head down to Napa to see if they can order that same Kats heater you linked from PartsAmerica since it says it will fit my ride and it looks like it will thread right in. I'll post back in a few weeks to let everyone know how it went.
