Have you checked for spark at plug #3? Also check whether injector #3 has battery voltage and is clicking. Another approach is to swap injector #3 and another injector to see whether the misfire follows injector #3. If spark and fuel is fine, then compression test the cylinders.

yes all injectors are clicking I have not checked the spark at the plug end it has spark at the distributer, I have not checked the compression yet thought i would do that last maybe should have done it first. could it be the distributer?

Check for spark at the plug. It should be bright white. If that's fine, compression test the cylinders.

I have not done the compression check yet, thought I would set timing when I did I cleared the cel and restarted and drove the car all over thought that fixed it but when it idles the cel came back on this time it was #1 cylinder misfire cleared it and idled it for 10 min. or so and cel came back on #3 cylinder misfire as long as I drive it its fine it's when it idles, its got plenty of power but it idels real rough and the idle goes up and down did the tb clean up with the IACV and the coolant bleed off the next day it started the same thing is this car ready for the junk yard or am I missing something guess i had better do the compression test

What brand plugs, wires, cap, and rotor did you install? Also test the coil and ICM in the distributor.

Valves adjusted too tight or other reasons for poor compression will cause misfiring at idle. A compression test would be very useful in the diagnosis. Also check for air leaks around the injectors and where the intake manifold attaches to the head.

Question misfire 1997 civic

Well I did the compresion check and 2,3,4 cylinders read 150 and #1 read only 60 I put a little oil in the cylinder and rechecked it it went right up to 160 does that sound like a piston ring? thank you for any info, Glen
