Default RE: Mileage

I've got 248,00 on my 96 HX.

Last 20K new master cylinder, new clutch/flywheel/rear main seal (all were originial). My CV axles are cracked though not leaking yet, to be replaced when I get some time. All other things I did were simply normal maintenance (oil, brakes, timing belt). This all of course adds up but the -20,000 miles on my jeep and the gas money saved from going from 15mpg to 40mpg makes me almost break even...

I guess it really depends on how the car was treated...the first 200K on mine were all highway, female commuter, well maintained. 20K high school kid, maintained it but rode it a little hard, then 20K me in the past year (who neither beats it or babies it...)

edit: 248,000 miles not 24800...

Oh yeah and the older the car is w/ electronics and the little stuff I'm sure that will begin to pop up before your engine goes, if properly maintained...

Lets say:

96/97/98 Honda Civic

Well maintained, with aftermarket modifications slowly adding on.
The starting mileage is 100-120,xxx.

Thanks

should be fine BUT like stated.... all depends on its maintance...
main KILLER for these motors is the timing belt... if they dont have proof of it being swaped THEN CHANGE IT ASAP. cause that will destroy your head and motor if it snaps!

Yeah, completely agree w/ TOTAL overall condition of the car. Cosmetically mine is mint, well, for the most part. People never guess it has as many miles as it does. And since my girl has had her 97 HX from the start, I was able to compare the condition of the car much easier. Given that the one I bought drove smoother than hers w/ less miles was a major reason in convincing me that it was still in good shape.

So it helps to drive a couple w/ higher mileage b/c you probably will notice a difference. If I were to do it again, however, I probably wouldnt have bought something so high mileage, around 100-120 sounds good b/c at 248,000 I dont care how good the car is running I still feel like I'm running on borrowed time...If I can get 300K out of it I'd be happy. But if you get a car all the way down at 120K, you got a lot more car left if you take care o fit

good luck w/ your car search
