An ls vtec is where you have a non vtec blockandhave a vtechead on it. As for which is better, i dont really know, probablyaround the same hp +/- 10-15hp

LS and CR/VTEC's are better in a sense because the long stroke of the non vtec crank promotes more low and mid range tq than their vtec counter parts. But being it does have a longer stroke it has higher piston speeds throughout the rpm range vs a factory vtec engine. You can make great power with them and they really shine in all motor set ups when matched up against a vtec engine build vs build. A mild well built ls/vtec with the proper tune will mke better power than a type r swap with the same bolt ons and tuned, plus the ls/vtec will have more tq across the rpm range.
