Low Side Switch

Low Side Switch
My A/C hasn't worked for several months and today i decided to find out wat is wrong. Once i got the A/C to not work (cause when it was in my garage it worked perfect, right when i wanted it to break) i poped the hood in a parking lot and checked out the A/C. The A/C compressor was not turning and the low side lines were hot (they should be cold). But the Condensor fan was turning. So i'm thinking taht either the compressor clutch is bad, or something is not making the compressor clutch engage. My question is, does the low side switch turn of the compressor or does it turn off the compress and the condensor fan? If any A/C experts can help it would be greatly appreciated.

RE: Low Side Switch
That is correct, thats the function of the low side switch. It shuts the compressor off when it senses that the refrigerant level is low. But i think that there is enought refrigerant beccause the A/C works fine, sometimes. Other times, it doesn't work at all. When it was in my garage and i was trying to find the problem, the A/C ran perfect but when i took the car out to the store the A/C didn't work at all. So i'm thinking that the refrigerant level is OK but ill try and take it to my auto shop and check the level jus to be sure.
