Default losing acceleration power when a/c turned on

Hi all!

Just wondering why I lose acceleration power when I turn my A/C on. I had honda check the a/c system and they said all was fine. I notice a considerable amount of power when I turn the A/C off? Any suggestions?

This is normal with smaller cars like Civics. Sometimes it feels like a monster's hand has grabbed the back bumper and holding the car back. The A/C uses some horsepower.

Thats normal it drains power from the engine to run the A/C when it's on. Only thing you can do is remove it, or just not use it. What I do is when I'm using the A/C on a hot dayand I get to a spot where I wantmore power, I just shut it off then when your back to cruising turn it back on.

the car a/c cut ur horse power in half also it also burn gas too. on the newer model civic u really dont notice it that much but on the older model civic u really notice the power lost when the a/c is on. that whysome people who put turbo / or mod there car take take the a/c compressor this way there car is lighter and faster

^^ It doesnt burn gas, but itrobs you ofsome gas mileage. It makes your engine work harder to get the same result (speed and a/c) which makesit use more fuel, resulting in less gas mileage.

Exactly.
I am not sure with Civics, but my Subaru Impreza has a feature that turns off the A/C if the accelerator is fully depressed. It was stated in the manual. But loss of power with the A/C on is normal.
My hometown is on a mountain and there are warning signs along the road that advise turning the A/C off while ascending to prevent overheating. This is due to what Masonn said (engine working harder).

yea im pretty sure all new cars have that feature where when your WOT, your AC automatically turns off.
Also, I turn my AC off when I need to accelerate fast, then turn it off when Im cruising
