Unhappy this just in: over revving breaks brent's new civic! alas!

it started with me being angry with my wife on day and ******* my little 93 coupe. it does not sound like a "ticking", more like a rattle. i think its in the head. im getting a b20b longblock nxt wk. have to trade the zex for it. im super bummed. any advice for a beginner mechanic? i took auto body in college, so im handy in my shop. got lots o tools. just never had to open up an ohc engine b4. any advice u guys could give i will surely take to heart!

to elaborate... there is a horrible rattling sound coming from my top end. sounds like a beer can is under my valve cover. only thing i can figure is that i revved the b20 too far. i just dont know where to start so im buying a longblock. i hope that a head or complete swap will fix the car, but as for the noise i suppose i'll just have to take the head off. any other suggestions? is the b20b a sound powerplant? all my friends have b18c's or b16's and i feel alone and different!

have you looked at your timing belt? try adjusting your valves,
and by over rev what did you rev to?

Take the valve cover off and see if you can localize it better. You can idle the engine with the valve cover off, but oil will splash everywhere.

havent looked @ timing belt. will have to get a buddy to show me how to adj the valves. not sure if i have any feeler gauges. i will try letting the engine idle w/o the valve cover this evening or tomorrow. i'll let u guys know what i find. my buddy broke a valve spring once and it kinda sounds like that. idles kinda harsh too. i hope its in the valve train and not the bottom end!
