Default Input Shaft Bearing? Please confirm.

Hey guys, I'm gonna be buying my clutch kit, flywheel, axles, and lower ball joints soon and there's also a bearing I'm gonna have to replace.

I think it's the Input Shaft Bearing, but I just want to make sure i've diagnosed the problem correctly before I go buying stuff.

When I am at idle, there is a "shhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh" noise. When I push the clutch pedal, the noise immediately goes away, and when I let off the pedal it comes back. I can hear it while driving and it makes the typical worn bearing sound. It increases with the RPMs. Noise stops if I push in the clutch.

So, does this sound like the Input Shaft Bearing to you guys?

-Thanks

Its usually the throwout bearing that will make some noise until you press your foot on the clutch.

I thought it was the other way around... throwout bearing makes noise when you push in the clutch

guys, throw out bearing gets used when you push the clutch pedal. if it were the throw out bearing, it would be making noise when i push the pedal, not when it's resting.

Thanks for clearing that up. I always thought it was the other way around.

Trust, sounds like you have the right diagnosis. Have you seen this DIY thread, which I believe is for a 94 Civic? In the service manual, the Input Shaft Bearing is apparently called the Clutch Housing Bearing.

There's also a bearing on the other end of the input shaft inside the transmission. Either or both of those bearings could be bad and making noise.

Thank you very much for that link. I have been looking for a DIY and couldn't find one, this makes me feel much more comfortable with ripping open the transmission.

Do you recommend I just go ahead and replace both then?

Can you tell me where the bearing is in this picture? (regardless of whether it's visible)

And which one is the input shaft? Sorry, never been inside the transmission before. lol
