honda civic 2000 hatckback dx automatic

ok its been doing thats for like the 5th time in less then 2 weeks

i start accelering and when i stop accelering my car keep accelerign without me pushing on the fuel pedal..


does anyone know what it could be and how much it cost to repair it ?

1) Check whether the carpet under the gas pedal is bunching up and interfering with pedal release.
2) Check the throttle cable and throttle body for sticking.

Not sure on prices. Call your mechanic or Honda dealer for this information. Other HCF members may also be able to tell you. Keep in mind that such throttle cable or throttle body issues may be fixed in some cases by cleaning rather than replacing. Start simple by inspecting the carpet around the pedal.

i would try spraying the throttle body linkages with some WD40 or somekinda penatrating oil and work it around throttle back and forth a few dozen times and see it that helps. might want to make sure the cable has alittle play in it with it at rest... if it stays tight ya may have to slightly adjust the cable alittle looser.

if you follow the throttle cable youll find a threaded shaft with 2 nuts that sandwich a metal bracket.... simply lossen one nut and move the other to tighten or loosen the cable and then jam the 2 nuts back together. pretty simple. you want alittle slack in the cable but not to much....

no idea how much anew one costs. i never personaly had a problem with mine but my friends civic was sticking do to some rust around the area.
