my 95 hatchback with 135k mileage was failed on its emmison test [sm=smiley6.gif]
based on the results: 25 mph test passed at 755 (average is 136 and maximum is 798) 15 mph test failed at 1,030 (average is 150 and maximum is 731).

Can you guys give me some idea/s and advice before going to the mechanic tomorrow.

this is no joke...
buy a can of "you will pass smog"
put it in your gas tank, then fill up your car
take it to the place, let them smog it

or get a bottle of this stuff

dads friend works at the Inspection Station and gave us some pointers.

 

i tried something like that - it did not work.
the web site says, if you need repairs, do it before the test (Duh !!)

 

Is the CEL on ?
how does it idle ??
i would replace all the vacuum hoses. only about 3 dollars.
i needed to do that - but the big one off of the brake booster, i did not replace. you should be able to tell if it is bad. those small hoses ,one cannot tell if they are bad or not.
you will probably need a new cat

 

if its an auto, toss it in low, and drive around for about a mile, really giving it the gas... tends to blow anything out of the system

 

maybe its the cat, you replaced the cat with a high-flow one ever? Or maybe its just getting old. Its been 12 years now (if its still the stock one)

 

changing the cat will drastically change your smog. i passed with flying colors and the car was cold. after replacing the cat, plugs, cap and rotor.
