RE: how to swap guages??
This is a VERY easy swap. Go and find a gauge cluster from a 92-95 civic EX or Si. You can tell because it will have the tach on it. You can get it at a local junk yard, somewhere on the internet like HCF, eBay, or Craigslist.
The clusters are direct plug-n-play, meaning, you don't have to modify anything, just replace the cluster.
So, to get the cluster out...
1.With 1 or 2 small flat head screwdriver(s), pop out the hazard button and unplug it.
2. Remove three screws, 1 behind the hazard button and two above the cluster on the cluster coer garnish.
3. Pull the cluster cover garnish out, carefully. You'll need some force, but not a ton.
4. Remove the 4 screws that hold the cluster in place.
5. Unplug the 3 (or 4 if you have cruise control) plugs connected to the back on the cluster. This can be "hard" so try angling the cluster differently to get different plugs off.
6. Replace cluster with the EX or Si cluster and undo everything you did. (Plug in, screw in, push in, screw in, pop in.

RE: how to swap guages??
overall how hard is the auto to manual swap? when my auto dies i'm putting a 5-spd in my 93 dx 4dr.
I think the major issues were the shifter not fitting right, the key lock, and the reverse lights right? how hard is it to over come all of that? and of course if the ECU isn't changed it will have the CEL on.
I am planning to swap clusters too, I want a tach... only thing I see wrong with that is the odometer will not be right, unless it can easily be set to the correct mileage... yeah though those instructions are pretty accurate... Hope you have a tilt column though, makes getting the cover out a lot easier... I dunno if all civics had the tilt column or not, i know mine does. Had mine out to replace the light bulb for the speedo a while back, pretty easy job... hey also, if you want white faces that'd be the best time to do it...

RE: how to swap guages??
Here's how to do the swap wiring for auto to manual...

I haven't done the swap myself, but I have swapped transmissions and a bunch of other crap. I'd say that it's a 4 out of 5 on the difficulty scale. If you are good with your hands it may be easier. But if you have trouble filling the gas tank, then don't do it. lol

RE: how to swap guages??
Thanks that's just the info i needed to know. I took the engine apart and checked the head for straightness and cracks, replaced the head gasket and re assembled, so i think a tranny swap shouldn't be to bad. once i get rid of that weak link ( the auto ) then i can think about a turbo.
