hey guys, how do you disable the airbags in an 01 civic? i am racing the car in a demolition derby and dont want the airbag to go off in my face.

WTF? demolition derby...really...why?

 

1.thought you couldn't use imports in demo derbys.
2. why are you demo derbing a 01 civic when you could prolly sell if for more than you would make if you won. Which you prolly won't if your facing old lincolns or buicks

 

first of all, the civic is all beat up, it was crashed, and im in the 4 cyl. class. does anyone know how to disengage the airbags

well to disable it..... REMOVE THEM! and sell them for money!
you could get 100bucks EASY from those 2 airbags if not more. remove the air bags, and the air bag computer as well!

but if you want to be stupid simply unhook the airbag wires and with some LONG wires conected to the airbag wires and hook up a 9volt battery to the wires and it SHOULD BLOW IT.....

but thats just stupid... why trash it for junk when you can remove it and recover some money from the car!

 

check the fusebox under the dash.

 

Ok, thanks guys. is there any way to tell if its deffidently disengaged? my srs light is on, but it was when i got the car.

I am not sure how to verify that the airbag system has been disengaged.

As suggested by mxs, the below picture of the SRS system circuitry hints that removal of under-dash fuses 13, 23, and 25 may inactivate the airbags.

for a fun prank you could do this:

take the airbag out of your car and mount it in your buddys mailbox. then when he goes to get the mail you can set it off and scare the bejesus out of him.
