Honda Civic 93 starting problem
Hi! I have a Honda Civic 1993 152000 kms. If I get to start it, it starts fine after it has warmed up but when I leave it for a long time, like leave it overnight, when I start it, the motor turns/crank and I struggle to make it start. spark plugs changed. Don't know what's wrong. Plus, the car smells gas but there is no leak anywhere, please help, I need a car to go to work. My speedometer won't work. Sometimes it works when the car has been driven a long time, say 15 minutes. Thanks for your help!

RE: Honda Civic 93 starting problem
Is the check engine light ON?
The gas smell may be due to a flooded engine, which can lead to low compression and difficulties starting.
The cause of the difficult start may be bad plug wires, distributor cap, or rotor. Problems with the coil, igniter, fuel filter, or fuel pump are also possible, although I'd start with the items mentioned earlier.

So you took your wires off, need to know how to put them back on? All Civics fire in order 1-3-4-2 going clockwise around the distributor looking at the top of the cap. There is usually a 1 on the cap next to where the wire to cylinder #1 goes, I think it is the one at about 10 o'clock. Cylinder 1 is the one farthest from the distributor.

Could be the main relay. You should hear the fuel pump (under the back seat) run to prime the lines when you turn the key on but don't try to start. Also when turning the key on but not cranking, the check engine light should come on for 2 seconds and then go out, the pump runs while it is on. Of course this test is only meaningful if you do it while the car is not wanting to start.
