High Emissions
I have a 98 Civic DX coupe D167Y. replaced the distributor, no engine code flashes but check engine light on. O sensor burned out front and rear. The e test ASM2525 Test in Ontario HC ppm is 83 limit 75, CO%1.09 limit .42, NO passed. Appears to be running rich and smokes when warmed up. Any suggestions??
Thanks Mike L.

RE: High Emissions
Are you retrieving the CEL code like this:
http://www.honda-tech.com/zerothread/1901557
A dead primary O2 sensor will cause the engine to run rich. Fix O2 sensor before the catalytic converter is destroyed.

RE: High Emissions
Ron,
I used the proceedure you recommended for code reading, but no flashes came up. CEL still on. Pulled the reset fuse under the hood. No change.
I,m going to replace the O2 sensor today to see if there is a change.
Thanks Mike L.

RE: High Emissions
Retrieving CEL code: Make sure the jumper wire used for the SCS connector is making good electrical contact with both terminals. If a wire doesn't work, then also try a paper clip.
Reset procedure: Try removing the 7.5A BACKUP fuse for one full minute before reinserting. After you have done this, turn ON the ignition key but don't crank the engine. The CEL should turn ON for about two seconds and then turn OFF.
If you are sure that you cannot retrieve a code and the reset procedure doesn't turn OFF the CEL, then you may have a bad ECU or ECU wiring (see pictures). Address this important issue before replacing the O2 sensor.
