Yeah, when the CEL is ON but no code can be retrieved, the ECU may be bad. Prior to purchasing a new ECU, you might want to verify that the wire running between MAP sensor and ECU has continuity.

I assumed that the CEL was staying on because the engine wasn't running... but i'm still thinking the ECU seems toasted. I was about to order one when I found that they were going for $1000 new and $600 rebuilt. So I passed the car to a local garage to get a 3rd opinion before I spent half the value of the car on an ECU.
