so i have a 97 civic ex coupe and it has a d16y8 which is supposed to be vtec but how come it doesnt say it anywhere, i try to tell my friends that its vtec but they dont believe me, is that normal? or where does it say vtec?

 

Buy some vtec stickers on ebay and slap em on... [sm=loser.gif]

The real question is why is it such a big deal to you/your friends if its vtec or not? You looked it up and it is, most civics don't have vtec badging.Show them your manual or better yet take off your valve cover and show em ur cams...

 

look for the v-tec solenoid right behind your distributor, there will be a green sensor on it and a cylinder, thats proof that you have v-tec,

 

If your friends aren't smart enough to figure it out, then why the hell do you care what they think?

Look where the engine and tranny meet, there is will be a stamp with an engine code. Post the engine code and some1 can tell you if its VTEC or not.

 

this is how you tell, the vtec solenoid. Now you can make all your friends look like idiots with solid technical knowledge!
