Exclamation help, maybe someone has had this problem before...

My civic 2001 ex gets pissed off, mostly on hot days in traffic or when I run the a/c. it throws a check engine light, the rpms will not advance above 2500 no matter how much pedal you give it. Sometimes it dies, or chokes up.
please email me or post on here if you have any input.
thanks

Did you pull the code for the CEL?

I pulled the code at autozone and it said something about the ignition system.

Fixing the camshaft position sensor (CEL code P1361) will likely solve the problem.

I've worked on older cars, however I do not have much experience with these cars.... It's my girls car.

Do you have any manuals, or how-to information write-ups on the subject?
anything would help.
How long/ how difficult is this procedure?

thanks

Click the Manuals link in my signature. Download the 01-05 service manual.

thanks for your help, It really saved me time and money.

Can you direct me to any write ups or details on doing this repair.
I've worked on older American cars, but not really any Honda's. should I just go ahead and change the timing belt while in there, I mean is there anything I should take care of during this repair. Can you tell me what all accessories I will have remove, or reposition during this?

thanks again

I made a mistake in my first post. P1361 indicates a problem with the TDC sensor (see first diagram for general location of sensor), which should be accessible without removal of any engine components. It also can be recognized by its 3P connector, which has three wires (see second diagram). Then go to pages 11-98 to 11-99 in the 01-05 manual for details on troubleshooting the circuit problem.
