Default Help! I do not know how to identify the motor in my civic.

I've got a 95 Civic HX. It does not have the original motor in it. It has a DOHC vtec engine. I do not know what series motor it is. I need to identify it so I can replace it with a new one considering my brother in law drove it into a huge puddle and hydro-locked it. Can anyone tell me how to figure it out without getting the vin number off the motor? I don't have a lift to put it on. Any suggestions would be incredibly appreciated.

DOHC motors were not stock in the HX.

Sounds like the motor was swapped with a B16 motor. On the side of the timing belt cover or near it should be a motor number.
