heater fan failure?
With winter here, I don't think I can just survive rolling down the window until I save enough for a mechanic to fix my problem. Good thing I want to learn to fix my own car anyways.... I read a little on the forums here, and in a book. I just want to state my problem and get some feedback before I go tearing into my car.
I have long been unable to get the fourth speed on the AC/heater fan. That loss wasn't a problem for me when I lived in Utah. However, the problem is worse now, and I moved to Wisconsin (colder). Now, I occasionally get a fan (this is worse than before). Sometimes it has three speeds. The last time it worked, it ran at one speed for all three. Now, it doesn't work.... That was a real cold drive back from my brother's house, and real frustrating keeping the window defrosted. It has occasionally not worked and then worked again on another day over the past year or so. With winter here, well, I can't play that game anymore.
From what I have read, I am suspecting that it may the resistor that I need to replace. Any suggestions or ideas on what I can do to isolate the problem would be greatly appreciated. Any tools I might need specific to the task? I am hoping that tools and parts might still be cheaper than taking the car in to the shop. Of course, I am also hoping that this is a repair I can do here. Again, any input would be greatly appreciated.
