Head swap?
#3
well the other head dose 16v and mine is just plain. i would like a little more and ya my valves tick really really bad. i wish i had the money for a vtec head but not yet. this is just temp. plus my car smokes a little more then it should and i think a valve is sticking or my oil rings are going bad so just eliminating one at a time till its right. so it shouldnt throw any codes as long as it gets hooked up right? going to do that next weekend as long as it will work and do a rear disk brake conversion

all 88 and up are 16v..lol just cause it doesnt say it on the valve cover doesnt mean anything, to fix your valve noise get your valve lash adjusted.
if anything find a d16y8 head form any 96-00 civic ex and put it on your block (mini me swap) and get the ecu from any 96-98 civic ex. then run 2 wires from the vtec on the new head to the new ecu and you will have vtec yo!

Read the sticky about how VTEC works. Basically at high rpm it switches to a different cam pattern that opens the intake valves faster, which allows more air/fuel to get into the engine so it delivers more power. But if that cam were active all the time, it would idle like a race car, i.e. poorly. So the V in VTEC is for "Variable".
There's no point swapping to another non-VTEC head. You just need to adjust the valves in yours.
