Default Haynes Manual Wrong??

I have a 2000 Civic EX 2d 1.6L. As far as I know it is NOT a VTEC engine because nowhere on the car or engine does it say "VTEC". However the small plate on the front of the engine says the engine code is D16Y8 and according to my Haynes manual, it says that this code is a VTEC engine. Also the 4th, 5th and 6th digits of the VIN # are EJ8 and my Haynes manual says that this is a 3 or 4 door/D16Y8. Is this a mistake in the manual or do I actually have a VTEC engine?

Can't remember if it's only 99-00, or 96-00, but one of them does not say VTEC on the valve cover like the 92-95's do.

if it has a little grayish cylinder to the upper left of the valve cover than it has vtec. a 6th gen EX should have vtec unless its not the original head as mentioned above.

I believe 2 solenoids means it has 3 stage vtec instead of the 2 stage which is normal in most d-series with vtec. I am not really sure how 2 stage performs differently than 3.
