Default glove box squeak

Just a month ago my glovebox started making a squeaky rattleing noisewhenever I hit a bump in the road. It's really gettingannoying.... Is the locking mechanism shot or is there just a screw or nut that needs tightening?

Please help, thanks

Car squeaks can be so annoying. Do you feel any abnormal free play when you grasp the closed glove box trying to move it up and down? If so, first check that the the two bolts securing the box to the framework below the dash are tight. If this is not the problem, next check whether the U shaped piece of metal that engages the lock mechanism may be loose.

I tested it, it seems pretty tight. It only does it whenthe glove box isclosed and I hit it with my hand or hit a bump driving. I can't tell if it's coming from underneath, or if it's the mechanism that locks it, because I'm always on the drivers side. Might there be hinges that need wd40 or something?

Yeah, two small hinges near those two bolts. Wouldn't hurt to try some WD40. Do you think the squeak is possibly coming from the dash around the box?

Good point. Besides some WD40 on the hinges, maybe you should also try spreading a little grease on that U shaped metal part that engages the lock.

Thanks, I'll try that and report back if the problem persists or not.
