Default Gas Tank Fuel Nozzle Entry Question

This is probably a really, very stupid question but I wanted to ask for peice of mind.

My car is a Civic Sedan EX 2007 Automatic. You know in the tank where you put the nozzle to refill? There is a small hole where the nozzle sticks into. In every car I have ever seen, there is this little metal flap there that the nozzle "Pushes" through when you refill. I noticed the other day my Civic does not have it. Is that normal, or ok? I had the car a few months now...just simply never noticed it.

Thanks. Don't laugh.

The flap was intended to make it harder to put the wrong fuel in. Only pumps serving up unleaded gas should have a nozzle small enough to fit thru the hole and open the door.

But should my tank have that little flap? Because mine doesn't. I do have the smaller inner hole of course that the nozzle goes in, but no flap. Is that normal for my model or is something..wrong?

Oh boy. I am going to have to goto the dealer and ask aren't I? I've never had a car without that flap. It's just odd, and not sure if it's normal or if mine is somhow missing.

Don't worry about it. You don't need it. It's just a silly part required by the government, maybe they don't even require it any more since leaded gas is not sold to the general public any more.

Even if it was there initially and broke off, it's just going to lay in the bottom of the gas tank and not hurt anything.
