Default Fuel Gauge malfunction

I have a 2004 Civic LX Coupe. The fuel gauge registered full when I filled the tank this week. However I drove about 185 miles before the needle came off the full mark and has not gone down beyond about the 3/4 position . The fuel needle comes up to 3/4 when the ignition is turned on and stays there. Is it the fuel sender thats bad? or the gauge? If it is the fuel sender, how is this[8D] changed? Do you have to drop the tank to replace the sender?. I don't have a shop manual to refer to. Beinga new member today, would appreciate any advice. Thanks
