well.....second thread in two days, but i just started driving the car due to not having a title. car sat about a month off and on, i drove it up and down the road a few times in the month to keep it up and running good. Now that i'm driving it long distances ive noticed an issue. When accelerating, its fine, good bit of power, feels great, but when in gear and trying to cruise at stable speed (say 4th gear cruising at 40-50mph for example) it cuts when feathering throttle, but if i get about 1/4 into it or better its begins to accelerate and is fine.

 

First check that the CEL works, it should come on and go out when you turn the key on but don't start. If the CEL is staying on while driving, read out the code.

The Throttle Position Sensor could be faulty or misadjusted. Test it with a voltmeter. Turn key on but don't start. Connect voltmeter between red/blue wire (center pin) of TPS-- sensor still plugged in, and ground. Voltage should be 0.5 volts with throttle closed, and increase steadily to 4.5 volts as you pull the throttle open (remember, engine not running).

 

well...thought i'd give an update, stupid as it sounds. I didnt do much research before posting, i thought the vx model came with a D16z6, all material ive found lately says its doesnt and thats it comes with a D15, after further looking i discovered it may be the wrong ECU (i think lol) it has a not chipper friendly P07 ECU, gonna pick up a p28 this weekend and see if that works, the vtec isn't coming on either, thats for sure. any further ideas if im wrong would be appreciated.

 

bump for no answer still? hate to go buy unneeded prts if someone knows whats causing it or whats my best bet to try.

 

before you buy anything, check your TPS (throttle position sensor) as recommended by MK. I would trust the guy's advice, he hasn't steered me wrong yet!
