If it melted right at the alternator and not along its entire length, it could be the nut was not tight, the terminal was bad or there is a defect it the alternator causing overheating.

As stock configuration, the alternator wire goes to the underhood fuse box, not directly to the battery. Another white wire goes from the battery to the other big terminal in the fuse box. It is important to have the proper wire on the proper terminal.

yay!!
this is what i was hoping someone could verify. i have been having this idle issue for a while now and i could not figure it out. i did all the necessary fixes to find it and to no conclusion. i hope this will finally close the chaper of my mysterious idle problem so i can move on and do some other mods to the car. i have not been able to drive this thing for almost a half year now. so many little issues keep comming up.

ok i just looked at it today.

it looks like the nut holding the white wire is almost off. i tightened it and drove it around before i decide to do anything else. the electrical is back to normal. i dont think the wire is totalled yet.

as for my idle issues. it still continues. this time it just drops and stalls or it may drop and stall after a couple of rpm bouncing..

i am now wondering if its a bad distirbutor?
anyone know how i can test a distirbutor?
unless this is a different problem.
