first time civic owner needs help
hi guys, been reading through the forum this place is great , just bought a honda civic 1.6 esi 4 door saloon its a kreg 1993,its the sohc model d16z6 , its got 980,000 miles on the clock and still sounds sweet as a nut.its had the air-con taken out and has an induction kit and stainless steel piper exhaust,it also has a lowered front suspension, its got a sport interior with bucket seats all round too,it had the usual rusted back wheel arches as ive seen most civics of this age have and also needs slight welding to both rear outer sills,it also had a large key scratch down the side that was down to bare metal, ive managed to fix the arches and scratch and do alot of other minor work it needed
im now changing the back calipers as they are siezed, seems to be going well so far.the only other problems i seen to have atm is that it has extremely squeaky steering, ive checked the ball joints(seem fine,no grease leakage) and also checked the cv joints(rebooted and regreased),ive sprayed the bushes with wd but its still squeaky,im hopeing its not the steering rack as ive heard these are expensive and time consuming(im a part qual mechanic so not too bad on time wise),power steering fluid is at correct levels and belt seems fine,so what im asking is there any ther reasons that a civic would squeak like this or do i condemn the sterring rack and replace ?
thanks in advance guys
forgot to add i got it for £375,about 600 dollars so if i need to spend a bit on it im not too bothered, obviously not too much

don't forget to clean and re grease your e-brake "flange" it is the one that is to the left of the rotor. You should reconize it. If you don't then they will begin to stick and your brakes will rub like crazy. making this god afaul smell. ill post a picture. I had this problem where i could pull my ebrake all the way up and nothing would happen so i took my rear wheels off and checked everything and it turned out to be that "flange". I will take a picture and put it up here. If you have some teflon lubrication spray just spray it all over both of them

the rear brakes where grinding m8 thats why i got the new calipers and pads all seems cool with the rear brakes now,no squeaking or squeeling from front brakes just this god awful squeaking whenever i turn the steering

those are the "flanges i was talking about But they are actually springs. Spray them down with brake cleaner. they may be stuck in the closed position meaning they will be pushed towards the rear bumper. If so take a flat head and a hammer and hit it till it pushes back. Not to hard though. Then when you loosen them up you should spray them with a lubrication spray like the one i showed in the picture. This should be done so they don't ruin the rotors and brake pads. This will save you money if you have all this already
