Default First Honda

just picked up a 1994 civic 4dr for my daughter today... go figure the exact car i was looking for... Picked it up for $600. the owner though it needs a head gasked. fired it up and pulled the rad cap thing blew right out of my hand and next to no coolant in the system... yep needs head gasket. for teh min i had it running ran like a top. no visable leaks anyware. owner said it had a new engine about 4 years ago when his daughter owned it... other than that just needs some minor rust holes fixed, new hood latch, and get the rear door handles working... has a lot of new parts on it so i figure i made out pretty good. Its my daughters first car and we bought it as a father daughter project. gonna teach her and make her do all the repairs herself.. this way she is more familiar with the car and wont be scared to take on repairs herself or get taken advantage of by a shop... should be fun

Hmmm the form didn't post my last msg... O well... I figured it Had the 1.5 in it and its a Civic Special Edition. Anything else you can tell me about it? I plan on changing the timming belt while im doing the head gasket. Anything else i should change on this while its apart? ( I know when i worked at VW we would always change the timming belt pully's at the same time as we always noticed it was a pully that failed not the belt).

First mods i got planed are building a air intake and doing the exast at a quick glance looks like someone already removed the cat and possibly put larger pipe on it but them when and put stock muffler back on. Will find out more when i get under it. Any other good tips on this? Im great with Toyota, VW, Ford... but its my first honda

The pulleys don't wear much. I wouldn't do anything other than the gasket and the belt until you're sure that the new gasket fixed it; the engine could be cracked or warped or the rings ruined from overheating, in those cases change the whole engine.

Water pump new and everything associated with the cooling system has been replaced... they were trying all the easy stuff first before condeming the head gasket.. Must have had a ****ty mechanic i knew it was head gasket by the time i started it walked around and poped the rad cap...

Someone must have changed emblems on this thing at some point. Front and back have gold emblems and the special edition emblem in the trunk... Still cant see whats so special about it hehe.

I will get some pic's up as soon as it quits ranning. Been raning since i pulled this thing into the drivway. Go figure eh..hehe
