Default Finding and cleaning 1993 Honda Civic VX ERG valve

I was told that the only 5th gen Honda Civics that have an ERG valve are the HX and VX models. I have a VX and wanted to clean my ERG valve in hopes of reducing my NOx emissions, smoothing out the idle, improving mileage and performance.

I´m not really sure where mine is located and if it needs to be cleaned. If anyone knows about this your feedback would be great.

Thanks!

If what you mean is EGR valve, I see it is installed on the intake manifold. Two nuts holding down the valve. It has wires with plug connector coming out from head. This service manual says it is only for D15Z1. Is this the same as your engine?

I was going to attach the diagram but it was too large to attach here.

It's on top of the manifold near cylinder #4 (distributor end). The passages in the manifold are usually more clogged than the valve itself. To test the system, apply vacuum to force the valve open with the engine idling. The engine should slow down and stumble. (Ordinarily the valve only opens at speeds above idle).

Yes, I have the D15Z1 engine.
Any diagrams or pictures would be appreciated.

How did you down size the file??? I couldn't do it,,,I am jealous,,,,

The service manuals are free to down load from hondatech.info, anyways.

That looks so easy! Can I get away with reusing the gaskets, or should I new some new ones?

Thanks!
