Fan starts automatically with car start
Hi everyone,
I just joined this forum. I recently bought a Honda Civic 2002 or 03 with EX model. I have a question. Whenever I start the car, the car fan starts automatically. Not the AC but the fan only. I tried to take the fan *** all the way to the left but doesn't help.
Is it automatic? or how to control it?
Thanks in advance..

Take the glove compartment out of the car and locate the power transistor it's mounted in the duct and has a 4 wire plug. Unplug it and test ohms between the two pins that have big wires on the plugs, should not be short circuit. If it is replace.
Usually they fail open-- so the fan never runs, it's possible that happened to your car then someone hotwired it to get the car sold instead of paying $60 for a new transistor. Make sure that the fan does NOT run with the transistor unplugged. (Turn key off before plugging or unplugging).
There's a relay under the hood that cuts power to the whole circuit when the key is off, that is apparently working is why it stops when the key is off. The control panel uses the power transistor to vary the fan speed (according to the driver's choice with the ****, it's not automatic) or stop the fan entirely when the key is on and the **** is at "0".

Hi,
I am afraid that I would not be able to test the ohms etc (as I am not so confident myself) in doing so.
So,if I need to get it fixed will I need to spend $60 ?? also let me know if it is a major problem.
Thanks

The part (power transistor) lists for $60 at the dealer. Of course if you have a shop work on it, you'll have to pay labor. On the outside chance that the problem is actually the control panel, that part lists for $230.
