It sounds like it could be the fast idle thermo valve. Take off the pipe that runs from the throttle housing to the air cleaner, you should see 2 holes just before the butterfly, cover up the bottom hole with your finger and see what happens if idle settles down then you need to take off the FITV and clean it (its located at the bottom of the throttle housing).

I dont believe the d-series has an FITV does it?

I have a D15B7engine in my coupe and the FITV was the cause of my rough idle. The IACV should be the top hole so if you cover that one up the car should almost if not die and rev to about 400 rpm.
