i have an 02 civic ex coupe..5spd.. was wondering if its possible to put an upgraded or w.e ECU chip in my car for i hear an extra 30hp or so... for idk whatever it is 200 bucks.... not sure if i would have to do extra work to the car after the install , if it would make the car run leaner or somthing idk im not too car savvy sorry guys... and would it be easy or hard to install ?

 

you can not chip your computer. the most you can do is switch to ODB1 and then you can socket and chip that ECU and use an engine management system to tune your vehicle.

 

You are obd2 so you can't chip you have 2 options, a stand alone such as Aem ems which runs around $1300 or a piggy back which will run around $300. With an ems you might see 10 hp with the piggy back MAYBE 5.

its bassicly stock... i bought it with ebay headers/full exhaust... sounds horrible... my CAT jus went on me..so i bought a oem cat / the pipe after the cat and jus welded the exhaust can on... i have too get a new exhaust can too..try and get it too sound a little better...

its not a car i want to like race with... but a little more pep would be nice jus to mess around... i jus tinted my tail lights and got some yellow fogs..the car is silver ..so im gunna do black on silver.... black simple rims soon...

and also my lens is cracked on my fogs... went to honda they said i can only buy the whole fog light assemb. im pretty sure there OEM honda fogs... came with the car also.. but it would be sweet to get some yellow lens

30hp... lol. don't believe everything you hear/read.

A tip... before you go on ebay, search a reputable automotive forum or store online for the part you want and pick out a name brand reputable part. THEN go to ebay and find that same part. eBay is crap for car parts if you don't know how to shop on it. There are lots of shady titles and descriptions that claim to add a bunch of HP or be a really good deal but usually what happens is you get what you pay for.

General rule of thumb: If it is anything that could possibly break under use of your car and is required to be strong and/or quality (i.e. short shifter, header, turbo, a chip) and it doesn't have a brand name, it's most likely garbage.

P.S. 4 cylinder cars with an inline engine only have one header! (god damn this really needs to be a sticky)


and kev, i thought you couldn't convert a 7th gen to OBD1? Doesn't it have something to do with the whole no distributor thing?

 

i was never talking about ebay chips.... i simply said the civic i bought came with ebay headers/exhaust... meaning ebay meaning crap knock off brand ... i kno that about ebay alrdy...

what do you mean PS 4 cylinder cars only have one header... i didnt say to much about my headers or if i have 2 or 3 of them...

 

Just a matter of semantics, and not a big deal. Kind of like how people refer to all shocks as struts, sometimes mistakenly. After a while it doesn't matter any more, it's only an extra S. A V6 engine would have headers, where as an inline engine has a single header.
