If you listen carefully, do you hear the low humming sound of the fuel pump priming for 2 seconds when you turn the key to ON?

Do you have spark at all the plugs?

Check whether the distributor connector is getting battery voltage when the ignition key is turned to ON. If so, check the coil and igniter unit in the distributor. Some auto parts stores will bench test them for you.

One of the first checks is to see if the distributor rotor rotates when you crank the engine, if not the distributor is not engaged or the timing belt is bad. Then check for voltage on the coil primary screws (need to remove the rotor and insulator plate to see them). If you have 12v there with the key on, put the insulator plate back in, hold a grounded test wire near the output spring of the distributor and crank. If you get big sparks the cap or rotor could be bad. If you have sparks but they're weak and little, most likely the coil is bad. No sparks at all could be the coil, igniter, ECU, or wiring. Pull ECU codes and see if any of the distributor sensors are flagged with a code.
