when you hook up your timing gun you are hooking it up to the spark plug closest to the timing belt right?

heres a timing mark pic

Sorry, I did not see your last post 94civichatchback, I hook up the timing light to the number one cylinder spark plug which according to the firing order is the one closest to the pulleys and drive belts (right side of vehicle). I do not know which end the timing belt will be located.

Well, I've tried to set the timing following the steps previously mentioned, first warming up the engine without using the jumper, then plug the jumper but it did not make any difference, the red timing mark's still way off. I've notice that the mark it does not move when I hooked the jumper is at the same spot, the CEL comes on as well as the SRS but as far as the timing mark is at the same spot. Any suggestions?
Is there something I missed? or you think it could have jumped timing?

You sure you're looking at the right notch? There are 4. One is TDC and it's all by itself, and the other 3 are in a cluster somewhere around 12º BTDC (before top dead center) or something like that. You are aiming for the notch in the middle of the group of 3.

The jumper is used so that the ECU doesn't try to adjust the ignition timing electronically during manual adjustment.

Yes I'm sure I'm looking at the correct timing mark, like you said there is one all by itself (tdc)then there is like 3 more where the red one is, I can see it when I aim the light but there is just no more adjustment to make, the distributor is all the way to the end of the adjusting slot and if I moved it the other way the timing mark moves further away even more, and the car shakes a lot and tries to die.
