distributor having excessive heat...
can my dizzy getting to hot make my car not run? it runs good for about a mile and then starts cutting out, misfiring and then dies. and then it wont start for like a half hour. please help

that what coils did years ago.
do not hear about it much (but i am not around as many cars as back then).
but there is more electronics now.
do know if the ignition module will also cause that.
misread that 1st sentence - that is exactly why the coils did that. guess
it is going out also - that is if it is the problem

it does not sound like a relay problem,,
remove the distr from the car, spin the shaft by hand ( at the rotor) make sure it spins freely and not seizing up,
it acts like an ignitor or coil , you need to dagnose which one,,,,,
it would help if we knew the year and model
